While Nintendo relied exclusively on the drawing power of Mario in the 1980s, competitor SEGA established several platform game icons at the same time. Alongside Sonic, one of the best known was the classic Alex Kidd in Miracle World, released in 1986, which was remade for current platforms in collaboration with British publisher Merge Games.
