Emotions with few resources - the indie game Last Day of June from developer studio Ovosonico and publisher 505 Games takes players on a journey that will touch their hearts and shows that even the quiet tones can have a big impact.
Trip down memory lane
The game begins with the planning of a small birthday party. The eponymous June wants to make her husband Carl happy. That's why the two of them go to the lake, which is her very special place. But when a thunderstorm sets in, the two decide to make their way home.
This is where Carl's Dream and he is brought back to reality. The house is abandoned and he himself is confined to a wheelchair. June is no longer there. Only her pictures are left of her. When Carl touches one of the pictures, he is transported to a moment in the past and realizes that he can change various events. Now he wants to do everything he can to save June from her fate.
Life decisions
In the role of Carl, players search for ways to save June from her impending fate in the individual picture episodes. They have to solve small puzzles and, for example, prepare the car so that it can't start or save June completely. from the drive to the lake.
However, the players also have to realize that fate does not like to be messed with. Time and again, events occur that lead to June's demise, so the players have to find new ways to save her life. In the process, they gradually learn more about the Relationship from June and Carl and their friends.
Few resources with a big impact
Last Day of June uses simple stylistic devices to express itself. The characters don't speak to each other in any real language, but you can always understand them. There are no faces and yet the players know what their characters are feeling. The whole game is more reminiscent of an emotional journey than a fictional gaming experience. Especially friends who like the quiet notes and are looking for something for the heart and soul will quickly identify with this lovingly told story to relive.
