With Star Trek: Resurgence, Dramatic Labs wants to set itself apart from the classic point-and-click game and experiment with new game mechanics.

Fans of interactive point-and-click adventures from Telltale Games such as The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones can look forward to the first release from the new studio Dramatic Labs. This is a group of former Telltale Games employees who have set out to breathe new life into the genre of interactive video game adventures.

The studio is working full steam ahead on a narrative adventure game based on the popular science fiction franchise Star Trek. The game will be entitled Star Trek: Resurgence and will present a story with new worlds, aliens and protagonists.

Star Trek adventure with a narrative focus

Star Trek: Resurgence is set in the year 2380, immediately after the events of the TV series Star Trek: The Next Generation and the associated films. Players slip into the skin of two main characters, who are controlled alternately. These are the first officer Jara Rycek and the engineer ensign Carter Diaz. They are on board a Federation spaceship that is entering an unknown area of the galaxy and encounters two new civilizations, between which a world-spanning war threatens that could affect the entire universe.

It's not for nothing that the developers are advertising the fact that former Telltale employees are behind Star Trek: Resurgence. Players can play a Point-and-click-adventure, which will feature a similar style. Players will control the main characters in investigation phases from the third perspective and can click on previously defined parts of the world and explore them in more detail.

At the same time, it is to be expected that conversations with various characters will take up a large part of the playing time. In the course of the plot, not only new characters, but also well-known characters will appear. The reveal trailer suggests that these will not only be characters from Star Trek: The Next Generation; "celebrities" from other Star Trek media such as the Vulcan Spock could also play a role.

Diplomatic skill is required

The dialogs are designed to give players numerous opportunities to make important decisions and play a key role in determining the course of the story. The players have to make their own decisions in the form of diplomatic discussions and Warfare that many Star Trek adaptations are known for. According to the developers, conversations will be presented in a cinematic format so that players can immerse themselves in their roles. However, it is not yet clear exactly how this will look when playing the game.

Dramatic Labs also wants to move away from the classic design of a point-and-clickAdventures and experiment with new game mechanics. There will also be shuttle flights, weapon duels and sneak passages. However, completely free gameplay is not to be expected. Any battles are more likely to be fought by pressing a button at the right moment, which the developer describes as "action gameplay".

Unlike publications from the company Telltale the developers of Star Trek: Resurgence have already announced that their game will not be told and published in episodes, but will be released as a complete game with a continuous story.
